Robert Reich: What is wrong with the economy?

June 18, 2011

Robert Reich is simply excellent!  I implore all of my visitors to view this short two and a half minute video put together by Mr. Reich.  There is no mystery to the problems that the United States is now facing.  The supply-side, trickle-down nonsense that began with Ronald Reagan has been a disaster for the middle class and a boon for the wealthy.  This is a FACT that really can’t be denied by the talking heads that are trotted out on CNBC or on Fox.  The problem is that most of the main stream press desperately wants to be a part of the group at the top of the income ladder and thus, these facts are not often reported.  To make matters worse, our politicians are completely bought and paid for, and who can blame them.  Rich individuals, PACs and corporations are key to getting these politicians re-elected because that is where the money is.

Occam’s Razor posits that the simplest explanation to a situation is usually the correct explanation.  When applied to the economy of the United States, Occam’s Razor reasoning would mean that the wealthy make the most political contributions, the politicians who want to stay in office rely on these contributions, thus, the will of the wealthy is reflected in the policies coming out of Washington, D.C.  I think this will continue to get worse before it gets any better.  As the middle class is desperately mired in the “bread and circus” nonsense on television sets across this nation (American Idol anyone?) we are being robbed blind by legal wealth distribution schemes which take from the middle class and redistribute to the top.
