Race to Nowhere

December 30, 2012

This is a film, and a movement that we ALL have to get behind!  I encourage all of my readers to pass this around, post it on their Facebook pages and peruse the web-site associated with this idea.

As I have written time and time again, public education is suffering, students are suffering, teachers are suffering, the entire system has been steam-rollered into a “testing frenzy” by corporate interests who have NO IDEA what it is like to spend time in a classroom teaching.  They have co-opted education reform charlatans like Michelle Rhee, the money-grubbing lobbyist queen to praise “reform” methods when it can be intelligently argued that the very “reform” being espoused is actually harming students!

I am excited about the prospects of sitting superintendents in districts across this country finally speaking out against testing.  I am excited that parents are forming groups and opting to remove their students from testing.  Lastly, I am excited about films like this that are being made on behalf of injecting some sanity into what is presently taking place with regard to testing in our schools!

About the Film

“Race to Nowhere” is a film that calls us to challenge current thinking about how we prepare our children for success. Named by TakePart.com as one of “10 Education Documentaries You Don’t Want to Miss”, “Race to Nowhere” brings communities together to spark dialogue and galvanize change in America’s schools.

Featuring the heartbreaking stories of students across the country who have been pushed to the brink by over-scheduling, over-testing and the relentless pressure to achieve, “Race to Nowhere” points to a silent epidemic in our schools. Through the testimony of educators, parents and education experts, it reveals an education system in which cheating has become commonplace; students have become disengaged; stress-related illness, depression and burnout are rampant; and young people arrive at college and the workplace unprepared and uninspired.

Shown nationwide and internationally in more than 5,000 schools, universities, cinemas, hospitals, corporations and community centers, “Race to Nowhere” has become the centerpiece of a nationwide, grassroots movement for the transformation of education.
